CPSC recalls: 2026 is already a record
Every CPSC recall since 2016 from the SaferProducts.gov API, by year, country of manufacture, hazard and where it was sold.

CPSC announced 3,374 recalls between 2016-01-05 and 2026-09-17 (SaferProducts.gov recalls API). 2026 already has 448 recalls to 2026-09-17, more than any full year since 2016. 79.5% of 2026 recalls name China as a country of manufacture, against 53.9% in 2016, and in 59.4% of them CPSC's notice names Amazon among the places of sale. Counts of recalls whose CPSC notice names the retailer among places of sale, all years. A mention is not a statement about who was responsible.
Method and limits
- All recalls returned by the SaferProducts.gov REST API with a recall date from 1 January 2016, pulled 2026-09-22.
- Hazard is classified from the phrase after 'Due to' in CPSC's own recall title; 'Other' where no category matched.
- Marketplace columns count recalls whose CPSC notice names that retailer among the places of sale. They are mentions, not sales volumes, and not a finding about who was responsible for the defect.
- Country of manufacture is where CPSC says the product was made. It is not a statement about which party was responsible.
- Units are the counts CPSC states in each notice. Recall 16101 (Crescent Point Energy, 118,000,000 propane-service units, 2016) is excluded from unit totals as a non-product outlier.
