A residential garage door opener is a general-use product. It needs a General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) if a CPSC rule applies to it; a GCC may rest on a reasonable testing programme rather than third-party testing. The rules CPSC lists for it: 1211 (16 CFR 1211: Safety Standard for Automatic Residential Garage Door Operators). The citation codes
Every code below is one CPSC publishes in its own eFiling citation code list. The certificate names the codes the product was tested and certified to.
| Code | Regulation | When it applies | Testing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1211 | 16 CFR 1211: Safety Standard for Automatic Residential Garage Door Operators | Always, for this product type | — |
What goes on the certificate
The certificate is General Certificate of Conformity (GCC). It carries the seven data elements that get eFiled at entry: the product identified, each citation code above, date and place of manufacture, date of testing, the testing laboratory and a point of contact. How eFiling works sets out the two filing routes; the Product Registry guide covers storing the certificate once and referencing it.
What CPSC has actually recalled here
No CPSC recall notice carries this product type in its title, in the 3,374 notices published between 2016-01-05 and 2026-09-17. That is about the product type, not about any one product: recalls of this kind of item can still appear under a brand or component name. The full dataset is here.
